This was our first visit to this restaurant and it won't be our last. The food was amazing. The owner gave us the details of the dishes. Suggestions were made and they were perfect. The veggie spring rolls were perfect and we loved the sweet soya sauce.
Thanks. We'll be back!!!

Amazing restaurant. Your map is wrongly pointing to Montreal Road and River Road: please fix it.

This restaurant is on our top 3 list in all of Ottawa! Not only is the food always fresh, hot, and delicious, but the servings are usually generous as well. This friendly, family-run restaurant is smallish and cosy, and could use redecorating, but the food more than makes up for it.

The menu is extensive and it can be difficult to make your selections- fortunately you are given a large bowl of shrimp chips (or garlic chips if you are vegetarian) to much on while you decide. The service is helpful and knowledgeable; the owners will be glad to answer any questions you might have about the dishes. The menu features many meat choices, but also a lot of vegetarian options.

The soya tofu is deliciously spicy and has chased away an oncoming flu many times now. My husband, an omnivore who detested tofu before eating here, orders this every time. It never fails to impress!
The traditional rice is a popular dish, it is fragrant, has a nice firm texture, and is the perfect accompaniment to the spicy main dishes.
The Malaysian noodles are satisfying and lightly spiced- perfect if you don't want too much heat. The fried breaded tofu is very good and has the most delicious sweet chili sauce I've ever tasted.
Oh, and spring rolls are an absolute must here- they are light, fresh, and divine!

Not everything here is spicy, you can order dishes to your requested heat level. But if you love spicy food, then you'll love Chahaya Malaysia!

            Cocktail 2011-05-17 21:10:19 ★★★★☆ Very Good 4 out of 5

Delicious food and a very different touch of taste from traditional middle eastern food we are used to. It was great to try something new and not have any regrets afterwards! It's very flavorful and the spices, smell and taste is very concentrated. Tried the malaysian bali beef, chicken curry, chicken soup and thai hot and sour soup and they were all very yummy! Even my toddler loved it ) Great service (owners speak perfect english!) and they even made menu suggestions since it was our first time. Read the menu in advance as it is extensive and a little difficult to make up your mind on the spot!

Excellent Indonesian and Malaysian food! For a change of pace from the more standard Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese places, this restaurant hits the spot! We have eaten at Chahaya Malaysia a few times, in small and large groups. The Javanese Fried Chicken is to die for crunchy exterior, tender flavourful chicken breast inside, accompanied by a phenomenal dipping sauce. Malaysian Beef Rendang has wonderful flavours but be warned that it is spicy! The Indonesian version is tamer but equally delicious. Servings of both are small, but the taste is so intense that a little goes a long way. Satays are all delicious, as are the Jumbo Shrimp with Tamarind. Do select the Traditional Rice over plain old steamed rice it is delicious. While we have enjoyed all our meals here, I would recommend the authentic Indonesian and Malaysian choices over some others which seem to be (or are described as being) Chinese in style.

This restaurant has a great variety and great foods, good service and very good prices. The spring rolls are a must and so is the fried tofu. I am not one for tofu however, this is a must have. I definately recommend this restaurant and will absolutely be going back. It is on my favorite restaurant list.

Have been eating at Chahaya for 22 years and it is always delicious. My favourite restaurant in all of Ottawa. The beef biryani, traditional rice, fried vermicelli, spring rolls - I could go on and on - all are amazing. The owners are always very friendly and accomodating. All in all an amazing restaurant experience.

The Singapore Fried Vermicelli as well as the chef's special chicken are my favourites. The spices are uniquely combined to create an experience of extraordinary flavors. The decor is very plain but you will be so impressed by the excellent food that it won't matter.

This restaurant has a great variety and great spicy foods. I have never been to a restaurant that offers not only spicy dishes, but the option to choose just how spicy on most dishes. I would definately recommend it and will absolutely be going back

I love this restaurant. You must have the spring rolls if you go - not having them would be like going to the Louvre and skipping the Mona Lisa. Our favourite dishes include 5 star beef and the chicken curry but everything they make is awesome. If you're looking for a cheap way to try it, check out the lunch buffet. You're going to love it though so why not go for supper! The dining room is usually pretty quiet in the evenings and the food is great. The owners are really helpful in picking menu items and just generally kind people. Did I mention I love this place? ) In case you're thinking it can't all be great, the parking lot is a little bit on the rough side and the bathrooms are always clean but really cold. The food is so worth it though!!!
